During the last Blue Moon I couldn’t resist trying to capture the bright, glorious shine of the moon, even with a sub-par camera. I had pulled over on the side of the road, whipped out my phone camera, and focused on the moon, started snapping away. About six shots into it I looked at the photos on my phone and saw the cow standing there. The composition made a nice surprise portrait.
I sent it on to my good friend and remarkable artist Kris Dixon. A few days later she made this picture in oil pastels. I love the depth of space she created, the colors in the sky, and the perfect, simple, docile expression of the cow enjoying her moonlit evening. Isn’t it wonderful?
