The Upcountry Fair is dedicated to celebrating and continuing the traditions of ranching, the paniolo lifestyle, youth programs, and all things Upcountry Maui!
I was there to volunteer with the Haku Baldwin Center booth, where we shared information about our Horse Therapy Program.
Haku Baldwin first started the program in 1973, and today we continue her legacy by providing horse therapy and small animal therapy to youth with special needs and hospital patients. Below is her historic Spanish-style saddle.
The fair celebrates the contributions of generations of paniolo who worked the ranches of Maui. The rider-less horse procession recognized those who have passed on.
4H competitions encouraged the younger generations.
Vanessa raised funds for the Maui Polo Club giving “Cowboy Haircuts” for $10 each.
This beautiful old saddle is graced by a gorgeous fresh protea lei, and the woman who made it.
